This is a most interesting study. When we examine in detail Revelation 8 without going into the seals (that is a subject for later discussion) we find our answer in verse 3-5.
And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offier it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar wich was before the throne. an the smoke of the incense, which came witht he prayers of the saints, ascended up before god out of the angel’s hand. And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
So what does this all mean, we find our answer in scripture and it takes a very simple word search to do this. Look for key words. The key words here that we will use are; censer & incense. There will be another word but that will come a bit later in our study. So return tomorrow and we shall see what is our Lord is revealing to us.

Hence we do see how it can be thus applied. It must, then, be fulfilled by Turkey, unless it can be shown

that the expression “king of the north” does not apply to Turkey, or that there is some other power besides either France or the king of the north which fulfilled this part of the prediction. But if Turkey, now occupying the territory which constituted the northern division of Alexander’s empire, is not the king of the north of this prophecy, then we are left without any principle to guide us in the interpretation. We presume all will agree that there is no room for the introduction of any other power here. France and the king of the north are the only ones to whom the prediction can apply. The fulfillment must lie between them.
Some considerations certainly favor the idea that there is in the latter part part of verse 40 a transfer of the burden of the prophecy from the French power to the king of the north. The latter is introduced just before as coming forth like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and many ships. The collision between this power and the French we have already noticed. The king of the north with the aid of his allies gained the day in this contest; and the French, foiled in their efforts, were driven back into Egypt. Now it would seem to be the more natural application to refer the “overflowing and passing over” to that power which emerged in triumph from that struggle, and that power was Turkey.

Your question has much depth. Here is a simple and direct answer in that the King of the North represents the Rome and false worship. The King of the South represents Egypt or today “Atheism”. Uriah Smith was in essence basing his interpretation on what he understood of the Three Woes and at that time they could see that “Islam” or in this case the “Turks” were seemingly at center stage. By doing this he ignored an established understanding in Biblical Interpretation which is before the cross literal after the cross spiritual this is where they made their mistake. By following this principal we can see that Pagan Rome before the cross was the king of the north and the King of the North transferred his power to Papal Rome who then became the King of the North. The King of the South was Egypt – Egypt as we look back in History to the time of the Pharaohs we find in scripture that they were Atheistic power and in the following quote from scripture: And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.(Exo 5:2 KJV)

Egypt is not only the King of the South but it also represents Atheism. As Rome represents false worship and paganism. If you look at the history of Pagan Rome they worshiped all gods. They collected the god’s of their conquered enemies and would bring their priests and statues to Rome where they would be set up with their own place within the Pantheon. Which is now a Cathedral of Papal Rome.

As we look at the Daniel 11:40 the key word is “Push”. Another important principle is that each word is to have its bearing. Here the key word is “push”.

By understanding the meaning of the word we can now begin to determine what we are being shown in this verse.
Where we see in history based on the principal “before the cross literal after spiritual” that France in Daniel 11:40 is the king of the south and atheistic country at that time. who gave the king of the north its deadly wound when General Berthier took the Pope prisoner in 1798 and then later we see that the king of the north pushes or makes war with another Atheistic country and that country. Since the Papacy did not strike immediately at France we have to look forward into History. We then come to the time when the US and Rome made what has been called the “Holy Alliance” where the US and the Papacy took down an Atheistic power that we both know today as being Russia. This is where the US and Papal Rome joined hands to bring down the King of the South. This is also a key event in understanding where we are in prophetic history.

I noticed that the woes ie 1st and 2nd woes are only mentioned in Rev 9 and Rev 11 mentions the 3rd(Rev 9,11) where as Rev 10 deals with the people of God, and eating the littel book and a sealing to take place symbolise by the finishing of the mistery of God in His people as you guys mentions. But the observation is Another 9/11. Which is no coincidence to me. Just as sister Whites Testmonies to the church Vol 9 from page 11.shows us the secquence of events that has occure to the letter..

When we look at the woes we have to take into consideration (this is more for those who do not know this) that we are taugth the future through the past. (Ecc 3:15, Isa 46:10) when we understand this Biblical principle then prophecy opens up to especially when there are no more time prophecies. Hence it is only throught the understanding of the Past that we will know what is going to happen in the future.
